What it is

An ornate urn in a carved stone alcove, captured as a Gaussian splat. Instead of a mesh and textures, the scene is hundreds of thousands of soft, coloured blobs that blend into something that looks real from almost any angle. Drag to walk around it, and scroll or pinch to get closer.

Put it in your room

On a phone, tap View in AR and point at the floor. The urn appears a couple of metres in front of you. Then drag to move it, pinch to resize it and twist two fingers to turn it.

How it’s built

The splat is about 800,000 Gaussians packed into a 14 MB SOG file, drawn by the PlayCanvas engine. AR uses WebXR where the browser supports it (Android Chrome) and the 8th Wall engine’s world tracking on iPhone. If neither can run, it falls back to a camera view that follows the phone’s gyroscope.
